Captain’s log, B. De Broc: " Everything is still possible "


I still have the entire North Atlantic to sail through, which is a lot but also not much. I'll need some luck to catch up with the skippers ahead of me. Because if the context remains the same, I'd have to be 5% faster than them throughout the rest of the race. Honestly, that's difficult.

As soon as we left Portugal behind us at the beginning of the race, I realised the bar was really high. I think it's a shame that broken boats prevented Vincent Riou – and Jean-Pierre Dick, in a way – to be part of the fight. The two leader haven't made any mistake, they had the little bit of luck it takes to stay ahead. When they started talking about a 76-day race, I thought it was too extreme but they're actually showing it is possible. And also, the less time you spend at sea, the less likely you are to break something, statistically. And look at Jean Le Cam. If he keeps sailing at that pace and Jean-Pierre Dick has to retire from the race, he's going to end up very close to the podium. It goes to show everything is still possible in the Vendée Globe…
