Hi all,
This was my last day in the Pacific before rounding Cape Horn and before I leave the Southern Ocean behind, here are a few tips that helped me survive through the winter…
To stay healthy:
– A spoonful of pollen every morning.
– Adrien’s honey on a toast every morning (Keep the honey jar close to the kettle so it’s easier to spread)
– Spirulina, vitamin C: One tablet every morning
– BeautySané energy drink: A must after physical effort
– Haribo sweets: To boost the morale, but it’s important not to eat too many…
– Alex Olivier orangettes: full of energy and magnesium
– Relaxing breathing routines : As often as possible
Hygiene:
– The sun: Enjoy it whenever you can, you just cannot get enough of it.
– A « regular » cold shower (every 10 days!): Good for the skin and the mind as well.
– Thai cream, which smells great and Polaar hand cream
– Brush your teeth before night maoeuvres
Atmosphere:
– Music: Almost constantly, you can change your playlist depending on your mood
– Books: Good to relax for a few minutes, it’s always great to escape to a different universe!
– Noise-reducing devices to cut from the constant noise. You need to use it wisely because you want to be able to still hear the boat noises at times…
– Little gifts from friends : On Christmas but also throughout the race, it keeps you smiling
"Comfort":
– Cotten fleece blanket
– Le pouf: (j'en ai 2) indispensable pour dormir au plus bas ou les mouvements du bateau sont moins forts
– Waterproof wool socks (Seal Skins)
What I also enjoyed was the treasure hunt on the boat, the Rubik’s Cube, sudoku puzzles and the little notebook where I wrote down all I want to do when I’m back.
All these definitely help have a great time at sea, whatever the conditions. But it also helps keep a big smile and a good sense of humour. That could be useful on dry land!
To be continued!
Have a good Monday, you all!
