Being ahead of Armel
It feels great, even though I knew things would look good for me after tacking. It’s always nice to see it happen for real. As my route was east of the stormy depression we faced, I was able to avoid it while Armel got stuck in it, which led to a bigger gap.
The conditions he is facing
The sea is quite rough, it’s shaking but I got used to it, it’s been going on for two months! It was a little better last night so I managed to go fast and still get some rest. Since this morning, there have been short periods of rain with changing wind.
His boat
I trying to check everything on board as often as I can, I’m keeping an eye on things and listening to the noises of the boat. And I write a to-do list whenever conditions get a little calmer. I know where the tricky spots are, the ones that are worn out. I’m checking them carefully, I keep taking care of the boat.
Around the world in 80 days?
I don’t care about records. Sure, I’d love to finish the race under 80 days, it’d be a nice tribute to Jules Verne. But whether we finish in 75, 76, 80, 84 or 100 days, all I want is to finish a few minutes, or even a few seconds, ahead of the second! (editor’s note : In order to finish under 80 days, the winner will have to cross the finish line before January 29th at 1.02PM.)
