It has been a busy night on board Acciona. I had two reefs in but as it got dark, the wind dropped to 15 knots and it left me with two reefs in the sail and a broken main sail track.
So I had to get down to disassembling the main rail to take out the faulty track, put a new one in and then the reefs. It was a little bit complicated and the main problem is that, at night, my fingers freeze. It is not excessively cold, only around 8 degrees, which isn’t that low, but to take each screw out was a huge challenge, and I couldn’t wear gloves because one hand was holding on and the other was taking out screws. And all of this whilst I was on top of the boom… But it’s fine now, the main sail is up and we are back sailing full speed again!
