It's been a very exciting 24 hours at Race HQ in Alicante as team AkzoNobel set a new record for the greatest distance sailed in 24 hours in the history of the Volvo Ocean Race. The team eclipsed the previous mark and smashed past the 600-mile barrier.

As of 1300 UTC, the team was still adding to their record-breaking 24-hour run of 601.63 miles at an average speed of 25.08 knots. Read more here about how navigator Jules Salter broke his own record 10 years later.
Cool fact: At the time he broke the record back in 2008 with Ericsson 4, the skipper was Brazilian legend Torben Grael. This time around, in 2018, he is sailing with Torben's daughter, Martine Grael.
