Volvo Ocean Race has announced Stena Recycling as an official Sustainability Programme partner.
Stena Recycling will activate the partnership by providing an expert speaker on sustainability at Volvo Ocean Race Ocean Summits.
The seven Ocean Summits bring together the worlds of sport, industry, government, science and ocean advocates, to discuss innovative solutions to the global crisis of ocean plastics. By convening key stakeholders, such as Stena Recycling, we can inspire people to help turn the tide on plastic.
Stena Recycling join the Volvo Ocean Race Sustainability Programme, alongside Founding Principal Sustainability Partners 11th Hour Racing and Principal Partner Mirpuri Foundation, and our other main partners, Volvo, AkzoNobel, Ocean Family Foundation and Bluewater. The work includes groundbreaking Science and Education Programmes helping the Race take action to prevent plastics polluting our seas by maximising our impact at host cities.
In addition to this, the partners are coming together to take action to prevent plastics polluting our seas by maximising our impact at Host Cities, minimising the footprint of our Race Villages and providing inspiration so we are able to leave a positive legacy for the future health of our oceans. The programme is also a proud supporter of the United Nations Environment’s Clean Seas campaign.
Anne-Cecile Turner, Sustainability Programme Leader for the Volvo Ocean Race, said: “By joining the Volvo Ocean Race as a Sustainabilty Partner, Stena Recycling bring a wealth of experience in managing waste products such as plastic which is impacting upon the health of the world’s oceans.
“Volvo Ocean Race Ocean Summits provide a platform to showcase innovative solutions to this global crisis and Stena’s expertise and insight will help create a foundation for positive change.”
Kristofer Sundsgård, Managing Director Stena Recycling, said: “We need to have a circular perspective on all material in use. As a partner in the Volvo Ocean Race, we are able to spread knowledge of sustainable recycling. Where others see the end of a product cycle, we see the beginning of something new.”
At Ocean Summits in Alicante and Cape Town a range of experts presented innovative solutions to the plastic problem. By minimising the footprint of our Race Villages and providing inspiration to visitors we are able to leave a positive legacy for the future health of our oceans. The programme is also a proud supporter of the United Nations Environment’s Clean Seas campaign.
