Captain’s log, A. Boissières: " How fast conditions can cange "

There will be stronger wind this evening and throughout the night so I gybed earlier today. I shouldn’t have to do it again in the next 600 miles, with the western wind getting stronger and stronger throughout the next 12 hours before it gets more stable. Hopefully I’ll end up under gennaker or maybe even spinnaker.

I’m sailing northeast because an anticyclone is coming from the south. I currently have 30-35 knots of wind, it’s a pretty dark night and the boat slams quite hard, I get quite shaken. I’ve had peaks at 25 knots and the sea is rough, with waves up to 6 to 8 metres. I need to stay on my hands and knees on board and the outside temperature is 8°C. The sun will rise around 10PM, it’s very impressive to see how fast things and elements can evolve, with colours changing a lot. It’s really like the Indian Ocean I knew from four years ago. I’m 650 miles away from the Cape Leeuwin longitude ad all is fine on board.
