Captain’s log, T. de Lamotte: " A recycled Christmas tree "

Hello,

Last night, I had just replaced the staysail with the solent and I was cooking dinner while keeping an eye on the boat when we were literally hit by a huge side wave that completely shook the boat and filled the cockpit with water… I have to say I had serious doubts, not knowing if the water would eventually go away fast enough. But eventually, there was barely anything that came inside.

I had a potato stew for dinner, prepared in my oncle’s farm near Les Sables d’Olonne. Delicious as usual, thanks a lot!

The wind won’t allow me to go straight to the gate, I’ll have to gybe twice this morning. The wind is down to 25 knots now so I added a second reef to the main sail when I got up, right after brushing my teeth. That’s my way of waking up in the morning after night manœuvres… I already have my sights set on the West Australia gate but I’m also working on a long-term strategy.

Yesterday, Nao and I put up our Christmas tree, a recycled one, with green water bottles as branches and tinsel with little red hearts made from my dish towels, stars made from bottles and a little duck. Then we sent our wish list to Santa Claus, we’ll see if he can find us…

Have a good Wednesday, kids, enjoy your Christmas trees and don’t forget the holidays are coming! Yes!!!

To be continued
