The ocean is calmer today, it’s a real pleasure not to feel the boat violently crash in the waves at full speed. I will eventually keep a few good memories from this Indian Ocean despite the difficult moments and waves that are very demanding on the boat.
Yesterday was more in the category of unpleasant memories with strong winds, a cross sea and rough waves that can be quite threatening. You have to deal with it and just find the « least bad » solution. When the boat hits the water so hard and so often, you keep wondering if the boat is going to hold.
Monday started with a broken titanium part of the outrigger that couldn’t take the pressure. A few hours later, I heard a terrible noise and Mirabaud instantly became a submarine… In such a context, the shock is extremely violent. Everything that wasn’t secured just flew all over the place. Fortunately, I was in my seat but I was instantly pinned against the navigation table. I saw water through the roof window and the cockpit was filled with water in a few seconds.
I ended up with an addition to my to-do list: A broken stanchion. But it could have been worse!
