Did François Gabart have a problem after his jibe? This was the message received from Macif earlier this morning.
“Mmmmf I didn’t think the way to Australia would be so complicated. It is not that there is too much wind, it is not that there is not enough, but it is sometimes the one, sometimes the other. The wind is a little crazy, completely unstable. Over the past 10 hours, I had 2 soft moments at 8-12nds which have last for 30-60min and 3-4 grains to 25-35nds. I won’t talk about the direction, which is worse… When I look at my path on the computer it is not very nice to see. Armel did much better in this slalom game between the grains. Bravo.
I did not find any rational explanation for this instability so I told myself that this was due to the magnetic South Pole! The wind could be a little disoriented; he does not know where to go, of course!
During quieter moments I can clean the boat out at least… and clear the snow! Snow doesn't move away by itself.
