Stamm’s broken tooth

"I broke a tooth and I'm now missing about a third of a molar. The broken part is bared, I need to take care of that immediately… ". The Swiss skipper talked to the Vendée Globe physician, Jean-Yves Chauve, as well as his own dentist to discuss the possible evolution of the situation. So far, it is all under control as Stamm had had a root canal on that molar and is therefore not in too much pain. This does not change the Swiss sailor's tenacity and motivation in the round-the-world race he started on November 10."

Jean-Yves Chauve, M.D.
"When you chew or use your teeth, there is huge pressure on the molars and the amalgam that had been applied on this already-damaged tooth broke the molar in two. The priority was to make sure it would no get infected. Then one of the alves fell off, which actually solved part of the problem because there was no risk of iflammation any more. The only thing to do was to file the tooth so it is not sharp and cannot scratch the tongue and then to apply a xcement bandage using the equipmet in the small dental emergency kit".
