Captain’s log, JP. Dick: "Congratulations to François"

It was a fast night, we had winds up to 38 knots ad sailed at an average speed of more than 22 knots. Time to break records! No one has ever been as fast solo on an IMOCA. The conditions, sea and wind are favourable. François Gabart has just beaten my record. Congratulations to him!

I've been at the helm a little, just to get a good feeling of the boat. It's noisy, agitated and crazy on board. Despite the high speed and the noise, I've been sleeping quite well, I had three one-hour sleep periods last night. It's moving a lot, you have to be careful not to get hurt.

It's been a very active first month in the race and sailing in the Indian Ocean has been a little different from four years ago. The rhythm is usually more intense in the Atlantic and slightly slower in the Indian Ocean. This year, it's definitely not the case. My four race companions and myself are going really fast. And the group behind us is not that far either. It's still open.
