Hello!
© Tanguy de Lamotte / Initiatives-CoeurAfter hoisting the gennaker and staying up most of the night to work on sails settings in the unstable wind, I finally managed to get an hour of sleep before the live interview. But after 20 minutes, I heard a metalic noise and felt the boat slow down. I got out and realised the gennaker was loose under the main sail, the front fastening device was broken!
I put on my harness, took off my socks and went to see how I could get the sail back. The furler didn't look too good, that's for sure, and i knew I couldn't hold it all in my hand!
I had to reconnect the furler to the front of the boat so I could extend the cable and roll up the sail. I went to the end of the bow to recover the broken part, I used the white and red rope to stretch the sail and managed to extend a rope between the broken part ad the furler. I was almost done when i saw a whale 300 metres away from the boat, probably wondering what I was doing there. Once I was done with my manoeuvre, it decided to wish me godspeed in the Indian Ocean by diving right in front of me, disappearing in the sea with its tail up. It's the first time in my life I get to see a whale dive so close to me that I can see is huge tail. It's just amazing…
© Tanguy de Lamotte / Initiatives-CoeurThe way I fixed it all is ok, it's working, but some manoeuvres are going to be more difficult now because of that. I'll be fine, though :-) I'll round the cape of Good Hope in about an hour. I'll never forget that whale who showed me the way to the Indian Ocean this morning.
Have a good Monday!
