Electrical energy is vitally essential on a transoceanic race boat. Between the power to cant the keel on an IMOCA, to the navigation equipment, AIS, media and communications, the need is constant over the 5400 miles course. The development of alternative energy generation sources on board such as solar panels and hydrogenerators continues apace and each new generation of products becomes ever more efficient, reliable and, usually, lighter.
