Captain’s log, A. Di Benedetto: " Celebrate the winner’s finish "

Since last night, there's been a lot of wind, with 30-knot gusts and a rough sea. I had to change the sails setting and the heading to make sure the boat stays safe.

I was up all night watching out and I got some rest this morning. In a few hours, the wind should shift and get weaker so hopefully I can progress north.

Everything is fine on board, the temperature is pleasant – about 25°C – and the sun is out quite often. It's good because it makes it possible for me to use the solar panels to charge the batteries. My rib is getting better and better and I think that in a few days, if the conditions are favourable, I'll be able to hoist the small gennaker, which is the only downwind sail I have left.

My last bottle of champagne is stored in the coolest place on the boat, I'll drink it to celebrate the finish of the winner of this amazing Vendée Globe. 12 yachts and 12 skipeprs are currently doing great. The leaders' performances have been truly extraordinary and beautiful. This is top-level sailing, congratulations to them!
