What a sad and unexpected sight on the Sables d'Olonne beach this Friday morning. The city is getting ready to welcome the first Vendée Globe skippers and an 18-metre (60 feet!) cetacean – probabaly a rorqual – has beached on the Presidents beach during the night. The details and causes are still unkown but the event has drawn so many curious people that a security perimeter had to be set up as that kind of animal can carry bacteria.
