Captain’s log, J. Sanso: " My own personal doldrums "

Hello everyone from ACCIONA 100% EcoPowered,

It looks like I have found a private Doldrums just for me before I even get to the real Doldrums. I hope the next 800 miles to the Equator are not going to be like this because it could be a really long trip…

I have been sailing for three days with winds that never top 8 knots and just don’t ever actually shift eastwards as the reports are saying they should. It looks like I am going to have these conditions for another 24 hours with light winds ranging from 2 to 7 knots.

I don’t really understand it, as I have done everything according to the books; I have used the gribs available, and the satellite images… But even with everything available, I have ended up stuck in a big hole which I still haven’t got out of, and there is still quite a way to go before I do.

I didn’t expect this situation a few days ago, when all indications were telling me I would be catching the easterly shift and would move swiftly through the calm area and up north. Sometimes, things don’t work out the way we want them to, and we have to be patient. I hope this is over soon because if it continues, I am going to have to start rationing food. I am four days behind on this last stage of the Atlantic, the hours are ticking past and I am not progressing.

According to the latest weather reports, I hope to get out of this area in about 24-30 hours and during that time, I am not going to have over 5 knots of wind…which makes it pretty tricky to get out of here….
