Captain’s log, D. Wavre: " Drinking ocean water "

We’re trying to get out of the South Atlantic on Mirabaud. I made up my mind, I’m going to take a shower today! I’m using sea water and rinsing the soap with fresh water coming from the water-maker. Two full bottles! That’s a real treat, to be enjoyed between two settings and using the autopilot remote. The boat is progressing well, our speed is almost 10 knots!

After the shower, the weather analysis will show the files and the routing becoming more similar to the reality of the conditions, which is a nice change! I’m at the helm and getting closer to the direct north route!

There is very little left from the wind that was here these past few days but we’re still progressing thanks to that little unstable breeze. Mirabaud has her big sails on and I am wearing very little because it’s so hot out here! Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones puts me in the perfect mood to enjoy the latest rankings and positions. I’m glad to see the gap with some other boats widen. As for the skippers ahead of me, they’re a very motivating sight…

Because of the temperature, I have to drink water very regularly and I have to say that lukewarm water is not that bad after all, it quenches my thirst. The water-maker is on two hours and a half a day, making the 6 litres of fresh water I need every day. It’s actually pretty amazing to think we’re drinking water coming directly from the oceans we’re sailing on!
