One by one the 33 skippers made their ‘long walk to freedom’, alone down the pontoon to join their boat, their close family and friends and their hard working shore team. Weeks, months, years of work come to an end and the time to go racing is finally here. The spectre of the global pandemic is lifted the moment the solo skippers cast off for their two to three months alone, preparing to take on the unique challenges the 24,296 miles will bring.
