As race leader sometimes there are privileges, sometimes there are pitfalls. For Francois Gabart last night was about breaking the Cape Horn longitude first, tonight it is about opening the way into the lighter winds as he and Armel Le Cléac’h work their way east and slightly north toward the Falkland Islands which they should leave to port. They will be taking time to consolidate after the rigours of the south before they get into their first South Atlantic depression, upwind.
