After nine months of intense competition, the Volvo Ocean Race Game will conclude with Leg 11 – starting tomorrow!
The final leg of the race will see thousands upon thousands of virtual sailors race side by side with the seven Volvo Ocean Race teams in a 700-mile sprint from Gothenburg, Sweden, to the Dutch capital The Hague.
The shortest of the 11 legs will see the fleet dash south from Gothenburg through the Kattegat to a mark off the Danish city of Aarhus, before turning north and rounding the northern tip of Denmark.
From there it’ll be a fast sprint down the west coast of Denmark – with a forecast that’s currently predicting perfect 25-knot winds from the north-west.
Among the virtual sailors on the start line will be Leg 10 winner José Porras, of Spain, better known to players as jporras. Porras took the top spot in the race from Cardiff, Wales, to Gothenburg by an incredible 15 seconds, with fellow countryman julasu claiming the runner-up spot. Less than a minute later, Portugal’s MiguelRodrigues crossed the line to take third.
Overall, the Volvo Ocean Race Game, run by Virtual Regatta, is scored on a player’s best six legs – and, after a tight battle with British gamer Sideshow, Sweden’s Tessa94 has done enough to have the race win sown up.
Tessa94 – aka 23-year-old student Martin Baerveldt – will be at the finish in The Hague for the final ceramony.
