Captain’s log, J. Le Cam: " A lot of surprises to come "

It's war time! I had to face 35-knot wind last night, which is quite scary with the huge swell. I didn't quite understand what was going on, as the weather forecast was talking about 18 knots of wind, so I wasn't expecting to have to change the sails. When it all started last night, I jumped into my boots and oilskin to secure everything and make sure there was no drama. There is so much to lose in situations like that, and nothing to gain, so of course I haven't slept much. I'm waiting for this to go away. By tomorrow, we'll be sailing in much more favourable conditions – 20 knots of wind – but then the Amsterdam gate should be very calm so I guess we still have a lot of surprises to come in this Vendée Globe.
