A 660 miglia dall’equatore

After 34 days, Maserati sails in the South Pacific Ocean, 660 miles far away from the equator and 3,000 miles from San Francisco.
Giovanni tells us: “We are at latitude 10° South and we are sailing straight towards the Equator with 9-14 knots of trade wind. The trade wind is becoming increasingly weak and unstable. As consequence, we have to change the spi quite often: under 13 knots we use a flatter sail and over 13 knots we use an asymmetric spi. According to the weather forecasts, the passage at the Equator is going to be difficult, more difficult than the one in the Atlantic. The crucial part will be between 5° South and 8° North. On board life goes quiet, both the boat and the crew are in good shape”.
The Vor70 Maserati set sail on December 31st, 2012 from New York attempting to break the seed record on New York-San Francisco route, via Cape Horn.
